Prof. Rash Bihari Singh

Prof. Rash Bihari Singh (Prof. Rash Bihari Prasad Singh) is an internationally recognized geographer, senior academician, and educational leader who has served at the helm of premier higher education institutions in Bihar.

Distinguished Career & Leadership:

• Former Vice Chancellor, Patna University (2017–2020), where he notably presided over the Centenary Celebrations of Patna University in 2017 attended by the Prime Minister of India.

• Former Vice Chancellor, Nalanda Open University (2014–2017), presiding over its Silver Jubilee celebrations inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Bihar.

• Former Pro Vice Chancellor, Nalanda Open University (2004–2008).

• Former Principal, Patna College, Patna (2008–2009 & 2012–2014).

• Former Advisor on Higher Education to the Chancellor of Universities on Statutes and Ordinances (2016–2020).

• Former President, National Association of Geographers, India (NAGI, 2015–2016) and Deccan Association of Geographers (2021–2022).

Present Responsibilities:

Prof. Singh currently serves as President of the Bihar School Curriculum Framework Committee (based on National Education Policy, NEP 2020); President of the Advisory Committee, Srikrishna Science Centre, Patna; Editor-in-Chief of 'The Geographical Perspective'; Working President of the Governing Body, Mahavir Arogya Sansthan; and Member of the Governing Bodies of Gopal Narayan Singh University (Sasaram) and V.V. Giri University (Siwan). He is also a lifelong Member of the Patna University Senate.

Academic Legacy & Research:

He dedicated 35 years (1976–2015) as Lecturer, Reader, and Professor of Geography at Patna University. Under his mentorship and academic supervision, 36 scholars were awarded Ph.D. degrees. He has authored nine books, including 'My Visions and Ideas' (2020), and delivered invited lectures across South Korea, Ukraine, Bangladesh, Japan, and Malaysia.

Awards & Honours:

In recognition of his exemplary contribution to education and geographical sciences, he has been honored with the Bhoogol Bhushan Award (2015), Global Leadership Excellence Award, Mother Teresa Sadbhawana Award (2013), Star of Asia Award (2016), and Karuna Maitri Award.
