Sri Gautam Kumar

Gautam Kumar was born in Patna in early 1964 into a judicial family. Growing up in a large joint family and moving to cities such as Ranchi and Hazaribagh due to his father's transferable job helped him develop strong family and social connections. He completed his schooling at St. Michael's High School, Patna.

After graduating with an engineering degree from BIT Mesra, Gautam joined Tata Steel through campus placement as a Graduate Trainee in 1985. He progressed through the organisation and became Chief of Sales for the Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division in Kolkata in 2000, managing domestic and international sales until 2006.

In 2006, Gautam joined Asia Minerals Limited, a multinational company based in Hong Kong. He established the company's Kolkata office in 2008 as a Director and managed global manganese ore and alloys operations between Hong Kong and India. In 2018, he was promoted to International Group Director, requiring him to relocate to Hong Kong and spend significant periods abroad.

Despite his international career, Gautam remained closely connected to Patna and the Veer Kuer Singh Shiksha Nidhi. He was influenced by his father, the late Retd. District Judge B.N. Singh, and his maternal grandfather, the late Justice Sarju Prasad Singh, who was a founding member of the Shiksha Nidhi. His early exposure to meetings of the organisation at his family home inspired his association with the educational charity. His uncle, the late Bharat Prasad Sinha, also encouraged family friend A.D. Singh to take up the role of Secretary of the organisation. Gautam has remained closely associated with the charity, and his father also made a significant financial contribution to it.

In May 2025, Gautam stepped down from his Hong Kong role to spend more time in India. He subsequently opened the Indian office of a US-based multinational firm in Kolkata and continues to manage global trade in ferro alloys and minor metals. His return to India has also enabled him to devote more time to social and charitable initiatives.

Gautam is a member of several prominent associations, including JSCA. He is supported by his family, including his wife and two children. His son and daughter-in-law live in Bengaluru, while his daughter lives in Pune.

His guiding philosophy is that family values should teach individuals to follow the right path, help others, and contribute to the wellbeing of people and future generations.
