Dr. Prof. Bibhuti P. Sinha

Dr. Prof. Bibhuti P. Sinha is a distinguished ophthalmologist, academician and medical administrator with 26 years of experience in ophthalmology, teaching, patient care and institutional development. He currently serves as Professor & Chief of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) and Deputy Director, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna.

He completed his MBBS, MS in Ophthalmology and FAICO, and has received multiple Gold Medals and fellowships in recognition of his academic and professional accomplishments. His principal areas of professional interest include Glaucoma and General Ophthalmology, with a particular emphasis on teaching, postgraduate training, clinical excellence and capacity building in ophthalmic services.

Dr. Sinha has served as the Chief of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology for nearly two decades, providing leadership in the development and expansion of ophthalmic services, academic programmes and patient-care facilities. He also served as Director of IGIMS in 2023 and has been serving as Deputy Director (Administration) since 2024, contributing to the broader administrative and institutional development of the institute.

A strong advocate of academic growth and professional collaboration, Dr. Sinha has held several important positions in professional ophthalmological organisations. He has served as Honorary Secretary and Executive Committee Member of the Bihar Ophthalmological Society, Editor of the Bihar Ophthalmological Society, and Executive Member of the All-India Ophthalmological Society. He currently serves as President of the Patna Ophthalmological Society.

One of his significant professional contributions has been his role in conceptualising, developing and strengthening the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology at IGIMS, with the vision of creating a comprehensive centre for advanced ophthalmic care, teaching and training. Through sustained institutional planning and advocacy, he has been instrumental in the development of what is envisioned as one of the largest dedicated ophthalmological institutes in Eastern India.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sinha has remained committed to patient care, education and institutional development. His professional journey reflects a continuing effort to strengthen ophthalmic services, nurture young ophthalmologists and contribute to the advancement of healthcare infrastructure in Bihar and beyond.

Dr. Sinha is also the son-in-law of the late Dr. Birkeshwar Prasad Singh, an exemplary political leader, educationist and founding member of Veer Kunwar Singh Siksha Nidhi. In honour of his late father-in-law's life and enduring legacy, Dr. Sinha, along with his wife, Dr. Nimmi Singh, has contributed ₹1 lakh to the Veer Kunwar Singh programme, supporting the education of children in need.
