About & Biography

Dr. Rabindra Narain Singh is a name that evokes excellence in medicine, integrity in leadership, and selfless service to society. With a career spanning over five decades, he has not only transformed the landscape of orthopaedic surgery in India, particularly in Bihar, but has also championed numerous humanitarian causes, touching lives far beyond the confines of hospitals and operation theatres.

Born on January 29, 1948, Dr. Singh’s academic journey is as distinguished as his career. After earning his M.B.B.S. and M.S. (Ortho) degrees from Patna Medical College, he went on to pursue further specialisation in the United Kingdom, obtaining the prestigious F.R.C.S. from Edinburgh and M.Ch. Orth. from the University of Liverpool. He spent six formative years in the UK, mastering advanced orthopaedic techniques, before returning to India in 1982 to serve his homeland.

Since his return, Dr. Singh has dedicated himself to the cause of healthcare in Bihar, a region historically underserved in tertiary medical care. As Chairman of Radha Ballabh Healthcare & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd., he founded the Anup Memorial Orthopaedic Centre & Research Institute, a centre of excellence in orthopaedics. The institution has been recognised by the National Board of Examinations for postgraduate training and has become an important centre for patients across Eastern India.

A pioneer in Total Joint Replacement Surgery in Bihar, Dr. Singh introduced advanced surgical techniques at a time when such services were scarcely available in the region. He has trained and mentored scores of young orthopaedic surgeons, contributing to the development of skilled professionals and the advancement of orthopaedic care.

Beyond his clinical accomplishments, Dr. Singh has devoted his life to philanthropy and nation-building. As a senior member of Rotary International, he has played a pivotal role in polio eradication campaigns in Bihar and Jharkhand, led medical missions for earthquake relief in Nepal, and organised numerous free health camps for underserved populations. Under his leadership, the TCI Artificial Limb Centre has distributed more than 34,000 artificial limbs to differently-abled individuals.

Dr. Singh’s spirit of service extends deeply into education and social rehabilitation. He has worked for over 25 years with Bihar Netraheen Parishad, supporting education for blind girls. As President of Kusth Seva Sangh, he has championed the cause of leprosy eradication. He is also associated with Kishore Dal, an orphanage, and runs Pushpanjali Shiksha Kendra, a free school for slum children from his own residence. His compassionate care of over 17 orphaned girls is a deeply personal act of social commitment.

In recognition of his outstanding humanitarian service, Dr. Singh has received several prestigious honours, including the Gold Medal from the Governor of Bihar in 2009 for over four decades of service to the Indian Red Cross Society, the Rashtriya Gaurav Award from the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi, and multiple international accolades from Rotary International, including the Citation for Meritorious Service, the Regional Service Award to a Polio-Free World, and the Four Avenues of Service Citation.

In 2010, Dr. Singh was conferred the Padma Shri by the President of India in recognition of his clinical excellence and social impact.

Dr. Singh’s leadership extends into ethical and cultural spheres. He is the Chairman of the Ethics Committee of AIIMS Patna, contributing to standards of research and patient care. From 2021 to 2024, he served as the National President of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and currently remains an active Central Council Member. His role as Mukhya Yajman during the Pran Pratishtha of the Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, is also part of his public and cultural involvement.

Dr. R. N. Singh’s lifelong commitment to alleviating suffering, uplifting marginalised communities, and mentoring future generations reflects a career combining medical practice, humanitarian service and leadership.
